The Real Price Of A College Education Essays - College,

The Real Price of a College Education So where do you plan to go to college? What college do you go to? Where did you get your degree? I am sure you have heard these questions quite a few times in your lifetime already. You have probably heard these questions from people you do not even know. For these questions to come up so often and by so many people, they must obviously relate to something rather important, a college education. Just how important to you is a college degree? I believe it should be everyone's priority to do everything they can to obtain one. Have you ever been turned down by a job, denied a promotion, or simply wondered why someone you know is making more money than you, when you know you might be better at that job? Did you ever take the time to think this might be because you do not have a college degree? As you can see today's standards for education have been raised much higher than in previous years. Years ago there were no requirements for an education. Through the years there became a demand for a high school education, now a high school education and fifty cents will get you a candy bar. In today's society a college education is needed and in most cases required. Even a full four-year college degree is becoming the bare minimum as we enter the new century. In most cases today people are choosing to continue their education beyond their four-year degree. Most people are now looking towards obtaining their masters degree in their field of study. This is showing us the competition we are facing in the working world and just how important that college diploma is. Many people will argue the fact that college costs a great deal of money, so why should they spend money when they can be earning money. My answer to that is, you have to look at the overall view and look at where you would like to be in ten years from now. I agree that college does cost a great amount of money, a state funded college such as Bloomsburg or Penn State costs about nine-thousand dollars a year for residents including room and board. A private college education such as Kings or Wilkes can cost as much as thirty-two thousand dollars per year including room and board. The money you make without a degree can look impressing at first, but that might just be because you are young. The job you obtain will not leave you with much room for advancement, whereas once you obtain a college degree you can come out and be the boss of those people who have been there for the past four years while you were in college. The money you will make at that higher position will make those years of school worth every penny you invested. Many people may argue that experience is the best education, and I agree with them to a certain extent. Experience is learning and hands on in your field, but a background education is also useful and no matter how you may feel, the way of society is what we have to follow and that piece of paper, a diploma, is what counts. Take a look at your family, friends, and people you know. Now look at which direction our world and society is turning towards. How many elderly people do you know that have gone to college? Probably not many because a college education was not important many years ago. Now look at today's adults, I think it would be safe to say about half have gone to college. This is because there was a need for one and some chose to go and others didn't. Looking at today's teens and young adults, the majority are in college, are planning to go, or have already gone. Why is this? Society's youth are going to college because they realize what they are going to face in the real world, the competition, and they want to be ready for it. Now look at today's children, how many parents want their children to go to college? I would say close to all of them. Parents want their

Why emails here to stay - Emphasis

Why emails here to stay Why emails here to stay People have been ringing the death knell for email on and off for a few years now. But should we be listening? The latest peal came from French IT company Atos, which declared that it would phase out internal emails by 2013. And for reasons well all recognise: too much time spent dealing with too many emails, of which too few are useful and too many are spam. CEO Thierry Breton said his staff would instead use good old face-to-face communication, as well as instant messaging (IM) and social media tools. The shadow of social media Rumours also circulated when Facebook launched its Social Inbox, which brings users emails, chat and texts together in one place. Both co-founder Mark Zuckerberg and chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg questioned the future of email at least in its current format. Email I cant imagine life without it is probably going away, Sandberg announced at Nielsens Consumer 360 conference. If you want to know what people like us will do tomorrow, you look at what teenagers are doing today. Good to know that in time well not only be swapping email for SMS and social media, but also pledging eternal love to Justin Bieber. Last year did see a drop off in email users, by far the most dramatic of which (59 per cent, according to US internet research firm ComScore) was among 1217 year olds. However, the average 13-year-old has different communication needs to the average office worker. (The fall in use by 2535-year-olds was 18 per cent, and in 3544-year-olds only 8 per cent.) IM steps up The main pretender to emails throne is instant messenger. A quick Twitter poll revealed its appeal its informal, chatty, good for knowing whos at their desk and for getting a quick response. One woman contributed the excellent point that, as she is deaf, it is a handy equivalent to the telephone. However, IM is not without its drawbacks. It is distracting, not so good for detail and sometimes used when an email would be more appropriate. One tweeter summed it up with: Occasionally useful, often annoying. Especially when youre watching someone composing what should have been an email. Many people said they used IM alongside email: evidently it has its place, but its not an email replacement. Five reasons to love email With three billion users, email is clearly doing several things right. Here are five unique benefits: 1. Your account will be compatible with your recipients, no matter what programme you each use. 2. You decide when you reply, so you have more control over your time management a choice you dont get with instant messages and phone calls. 3. It encourages thought-out and structured messages by providing formatting tools and (almost) limitless space. 4. Unlike most instant messaging services (or phone calls), it still works if the recipient isnt there at the moment of sending. 5. It allows you to keep a record or reference by saving and filing useful information to your own system. This isnt to say that email cant yet be improved upon. There are already tools available to help sort through, and even explore and utilise the data within your inbox. Granted, some of these do merge information from social sites, and to an extent the line between the two is blurring. By the time those 1217-year-olds are taking meetings, email may have become a very different animal. But its definitely not dead yet: and its still evolving. And for advice on managing your inbox, check out our Top tips for smart email.

Analyse article by Roberto Gonzalez Echeverria Essay - 1

Analyse article by Roberto Gonzalez Echeverria - Essay Example A very comprehensive and an important philosophy that Echevarria illustrates in the very beginning of the article is that human and monster are two flip sides of a same coin and in his play Calderon also uses the symbol of a monster under the same context. However the author also states that it solely depends on an individual the manner in which he sets the pattern of his life as it also apparent from the character of Segismundo. Hence it is observed in the play that initially Calderon portrays him as a monster and an animal disguised as a human being however later he realizes his mistakes and makes efforts to avoid such animalistic behavior in future. Moreover Segismundo’s imprisonment is also a figurative representation of the fact that inside every human being there lives a beast however it depends on an individual to curb and control or unleash it. Another pertinent and an interesting fact that the author demonstrates is that any form of abnormality or unusual personality traits also hold the tendency to categorize an individual as a monster as it is also observed in the case of Rosaura. Her character is portrayed as a female with masculine attributes such as strength and determination. Such unusual characteristics make her look like a monster or a beast in the eyes of the society because her unusual personality goes against the strictures and conventions. Hence in other words Echeverria establishes that monster is a vast term that has layers of meaning one of which is the unconventional behavior of an individual. Hence it is observed that the author provides the readers with a very apt explanation of the symbol of the monster and hence helps in adding new dimension to the context of Calderon’s play. Moreover Echevarria also strives to convince the readers that the term monster in literature not only implies a beast in the physical terms but also any

Case Study 6 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Case Study 6 - Essay Example The most probable symptoms exhibited by the community people living with AIDS include swollen glands growing in the throat and groin. Further, the individuals may also witness muscle aches and fatigue. Normally, the fatigue and tiredness period are usually unexplained in this people. It is worth noting, that everyone in the New York community is susceptible to contracting the virus. In which case, anyone who involves in unprotected sex and sharing of infected equipments is at risk of contracting the disease especially if any of those involved another party who is HIV positive. Considering AIDS is transmitted through body fluids, sharing of the sharp equipment and having coitus with the infected person is a most certain way the virus can spread. The virus normally presents itself in blood, semen and breast milk of infected people (Timberg & Halperin, 2013). These are the most common ways that AIDS presents itself in New York city, where there are people from all walks of life. Once the virus is introduced to the bloodstream, it affects the immune response thereby reinforcing its symptoms on the body of the infected. Apart from New York city, other communities that have witnessed the same include Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston and Philadelphia. This is because of t he higher population growth in this areas. Even though AIDS has manifested itself as pervasive in the above communities, the involved subjects have been able to manipulate strategies for preventing the disease. Naturally, the pervasiveness of the disease arises because the communities have failed in their attempts to get a cure or vaccine. However, the efforts put have given rise to such strategies such as the need to avoid the high-risk behaviors, including unprotected sex and sharing of sharp instruments. Further, the subject healthcare providers in this

International Trade and Finance Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

International Trade and Finance - Essay Example A country can only be considered least developed if it fulfills the three criteria suggested by the Committee for Development Policy (CDP) which include low-income, weak human assets, and high economic vulnerability (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC), 2011). Due to the fact that international trade plays an important role for the development of LDCs, World Trade Organization (WTO) should also be considered. The main thrust of this paper is to have an in-depth analysis with regard to the trade and economy of LDCs from the perspective of the WTO, and determine how does it help LDCs. Nepal and the World Trade Organization (WTO) WTO is the â€Å"only international organization dealing with rules of trade between nations...the goal is to help producers of goods and services, exporters, and importers conduct their business† (World Trade Organization (WTO), n.d.). There are currently 153 WTO members worldwide and most of them have high performing economies ; however, they commit themselves to the objectives of WTO and reaffirm to the agreement that trade concessions and special provisions will be given to LDCs (World Trade Organization, 2001, p.9). ... Nepal is one of the poorest and underdeveloped countries in Asia, and become the first member of WTO among LDCs in 2004 (United Nations, 2007, p.75). Nepal’s application for accession to WTO had last for almost 14 years until such time that the organization decided to give the Nepalese government a formal hearing in the last stages of the accession process (Gallagher, 2005, p.54). The country bid for membership because it was â€Å"motivated by a desire to ensure predictable market access and become eligible for the special concessions available to LDCs under WTO rules† (Baumuller, et al., 2008, p.1). Aside from this, the country also wanted to enter the export and industrial sector in India and it needs to have a multilateral back-up that would assure its transit to the overseas market. WTO membership is the only choice for Nepal considering that it did not have the capacity to compete with the fastest growing economy in the world like China. As a result, Nepal is give n preferential access and bilateral agreement in the Indian market that made the country more competent to trade and take full advantage in the global trade opportunities. â€Å"Close collaboration between business, government and civil society gave Nepal access to the benefits of the global trading system in the midst of constitutional crisis† (Gallagher, 2005, p.55). However, the total benefits offered by WTO membership are not for free and not automatic because various efforts are needed such as the ability of Nepal to take advantage with the enhanced opportunities and learned to become an independent economic country. The membership is not a guarantee for Nepal to have a long-term economic

Intellectual Skills Practical Skills And Transferable Skills Education Essay

Intellectual Skills Practical Skills And Transferable Skills Education Essay My first impression of this course was glad where I has chance to find out how the process of research and how to write the research report. As part of that, this course also has mention information system where I can more understand how the information system can support business activities and the future of information technology. The aim of this program is reflecting on the application of research approaches and communicating research finding in a suitable format for dissemination. Because of that, among the course I learning how to categories sources of information, how source of information usage in research, how IT contribution can enhance business performance and awareness of the range and variety of the technologies that support organisations. Moreover, this course also let me to practice intellectual skills, practical skills and transferable skills. For intellectual skills include how to select the suitable topic for investigation, appreciate its relationship which current development in IT, define clear research objectives, evaluate the results of a literature survey and understand system approach to organizations is considerable part for doing reaching. Meanwhile, this module let me to experience how to work effectively as part of team and schedule an effective study plan where systematically organize and interpret data obtained during group assignment and undertake self directed study. Furthermore, this course also let me practice to produce an effective visual presentation. Overall, the objective of this program is transfer the theoretical and skills to real world situations where I can apply it in the future. Main Report The coursework are split into two parts, the first part is group research and presentation. Before start the coursework, we try to plan how the group performed whether whole class in single group or separate in small group. Unfortunately our course modulator decides to discrete our class into three teams. Thus I feel that anxiety which team needs to joint because fearful to join the worst team has poor leader where it make my journey of this group project bitterer. This is where I found that the teamwork plays and leader as important elements for success the project. Team work is a group of individuals working together to achieve a common goal which is complete our group assignment. While, team leader is key person in the team where he/she needs to known well the project future direction, responsibility, well planning, attends team member and give a clear cut intrusion to the team member. Therefore leader performance is important, it will affect whole teams move further or reduce bac k. After few discussions on centre, finally I choose to join Miss Teo team where our team consists of me and Miss Teo only. If has any project in the future, I will not disquiet that need to select which group to join the important is what role you play in the team. If you are team leader need to responsibility and give clear-cut intrusion and attend to team member. If as a team member, need to coordinate with other team member and team leader. The week after finalize group member, we try to carry forward to following question which is select the topic of research of our team. Before we start, our class is worn off by course modulator that we have limited time to carry out research. Meanwhile I insight that the important of time management. Time management is range of tools, skill and techniques to use manage the time accomplishing the project. We distributed the workload among ourselves and set a time frame for completion. Group members were to adhere to the time frame stipulated. This is how we manage to complete a group assignment and presentation, with much hidden work behind our success. Meantime, our team is discussing the topic of the research. After a few short online discussions, our team generally fixates telehealth will be our topic of assignment. Immediately our team facing another question where telehealth is a big topic, isnt our team able to handle this kind of big research in short duration? If not, what is the next topic we need to look it, isnt subtopic of telehealth like telemedicine, home telehealth or ehealth or different topic? These kinds of questions keep come disturb us, among team member also has different argument about the topic and storming stages also come to join our team. Because of that, our team has a lot of online discussion and facing to facing meeting. But unfortunately our team also forces to invite our course modulator to join to settle down our problem. But luckily our team very hastily to say goodbye to storming where we has common idea to decide EHR in Alberta, Canada as our topic. Alberta is the first province in Canada carry out telehealth and EHR. At this moment, I discover that effective listening, take note, peer assessment and select a suitable topic is important for beginning of research process. Previously I thought select topic is easy job where pick up one topic and do research, but now I release that there is a lot of more involved. Next time when team member who coming out an idea/advice or suggestion, another member need careful listening, takes note and try to adopt it. It will reduce the storming stages and less conflict among the team. For the following week, we start do to research for EHR in Alberta. All related information for this assignment base on internet. On the internet, we can search a lot of information about the EHR. Then another problem prompt out is how the source of information will be categories? After categories it how the information usage for JRP? Therefore we try to analysis the information we have and summaries it into a point forms. For the time being, I aware that do the research has their rues of process and approach. Next time will more careful about that. In addition, our classes also establish a group called dynamic group where this group form to share information and discuss the problem facing each of the team. This group has a discussion every saturday on centre. The first mission of this dynamic group is finalizing the format of all report. In the question paper/ guideline give untrustworthy instruction for the format report. Every one of us afraid uses wrong type of format, hence we bring up this topic to group meeting discussion to discuss we need to follow which type of format. Furthermore, the chair of meeting is take turn by all members. It is a good time to learn and practice to be leader. Chair a meeting is a not easy job where need to prepare the agenda and do some homework. After we have sufficient information, then we start to write JRP. On start we have reference sample reference paper to see the structure of research paper and style of writing the research paper. Writing a research paper is not an easy job, where the all the part needs to base on the real fact to explanation. Although I not the editor, but we has much online discussion to discuss all part . At last the first JRP draft is completed, and then we start analysis and double check whether our JRP paper has miss out any point or not. We found that our JRP structure most like a case studies instance a proper research format. Then we look for our course modulator to discuss this issue and our course modulator said that this is the right way. Before that I think that before writing research paper, the editor need to understand the background and detail of the topic only. But now I have different option where the editor need to familiar the research process, approach, method and philosophy. One of them no follow, the whole research paper will be out. In the part of that, I feel the changing is literature review section. We need write the finding has done by previous research paper put at that section. We has try use the original world in previous research paper paste it into this section then will h as plagiarism. Then we found a technique to apply it. This a good lesson for me, next time when reach at this section we will more careful analysis how previous research paper. After few review and online discussion our team were finalize the JRP paper and continue doing the presentation slides. Following the next week, we doing group presentation slides. Then we separate the first few slides are done by me while other will do by Miss Teo. This is my first time to summaries the research paper to presentation slides. At the time, I feel fearful and strain because no idea how to summary become a slide. Then I start search from Internet how to summaries it for my further understanding and that time our team has few discussions. I think is a good chance let me try and learning how to prepare an effective presentation slides. It will help me a lot for future when has a presentation. After we complete the slides, we try to add in a word we need to present. Before the due date of presentation, we try to rehearse the group presentation and individual presentation. But we still no finalize the presentation slides. On that day, all team are trying participating to present their slides, while other will listen and give suggestion or advice after they present. Firstly come out to present my slides I feel scare. At the time, my mind is blank just read what has in the slides and quickly to complete it. I know that the problem what facing. Hope in next time present the slides I will more confidence and slowly to explain the slides. The next mistake I think I need to improve is answer Conclusion Overall I really enjoyed this group assignment where I glad that this group assignment gives me a great learning experience to do research and work as group. Besides that this assignment fit perfectly where I could apply what I learned in class to a real-world situation. Many classes teach you a bunch of stuff but never give you the opportunity to see it for yourself. For instance, Ive learned so much about forces and failures on beams, but have never seen it in real life. Other classes teach you things, but you never use it until years later, at which time you have forgotten some, if not all of it. I was able to take what I learned each week in class and use it to help me with the project. I think this quick application of the principles allows for greater development as a leader. I think that this course to better prepare me as a future leader. I will be able to use what I have learned now and years in the future. I can also use our group development as an example when Im in future groups and build upon the successes and learn from the failures. This project have made a big impact for me and the rest of my group member, hopefully we will be able to overcome these glitches in future project.

Stem Cell Research Under Fire Essay -- essays papers

Stem Cell Research Under Fire Stem cell research should be continued so that it will one day lead to cures for the world's worst diseases, such as Alzhiemers, heart disease, Parkinsons, and diabetes. The stem cells are taken from a human embryo and placed in a petri dish, where scientists can manipulate them to produce whatever cells are needed (Blumenstyk, 2004). Stem cells can be used to regenerate bones, organs, tissues, and can even aid in treating such diseases as listed above. Many universities, such as Vanderbilt and Case Western, are participating in the research for two main reasons. One, to help contribute to the research to manufacture drugs to help the sickly, and two, to share in the profits of the quickly growing industry. Eventually, scientists will have figured out how to use stem cells from another donor, and not just of the diseased or injured person, to regenerate cells and/or muscle tissues. As an embryo is in its development stage inside of the womb, there are different chemicals that ar e exposed to the stem cells, which in turn â€Å"tell† the stem cells what type of neuron to be. Stem cells are the body’s master cells. They can renew themselves indefinitely and can even turn into any number of different types of cells needed in the body such as muscles, nerves, bones or even blood. Stem cells can be â€Å"molded† into what type of cell our bodies need. This makes them essential to repairing and renewing bodily tissues throughout our lives. Our body retains stem cells that are formed at conception, and store them in various parts of the body so as to have a reserve that can be accessed at any point in time later on in life (World Almanac & Book of Facts, Science News of 2003, p670 ... ...opic† until something else remotely controversial comes alone for people to be up and arms about. No matter what, you cannot please everyone all the time, and with as many billions of people in this world, someone is bound to do something that someone else does not like. Stem cell research is and will be for a long time a big breakthrough in the field of bio-Medicine. Whether funding come from the state itself, the federal government, or even the private sector, these promising ideas should not be stopped. For chance of sounding ignorant, you cannot make an omelette withou breaking a few eggs. Many lives could be saved if this research found a way to cure and treat some diseases. If this research is stopped at its relatively early age now, then we may never know what might be. If we do not at least try, then we are not bettering our race for future generations.

America vs. Drugs, Crime

The United States is a bureaucracy built by the people for the people. As a nation, we have established hundreds of organizations to deal with different problems and epidemics that may arise within our country. While every agency may have a different mission, they are all geared toward the betterment of American’s quality of life. Three of the biggest national problems our government faces are drugs, crime and immigration. Each one requires a different approach, strategy and the attention of local, state or federal level government. The war on drugs has been an arduous, long fought battle, that doesn’t necessarily have a way to be won. There are many agencies in place to combat drug peddlers, some of these include: the DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) ATF (Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearm and Explosives) and even the FDA (Federal Drug Administration). Annually, the United State spends over $51,000,000,000 on the war on drugs. Tax reven ue that drug legalization would yield annually, if currently-illegal drugs were taxed at rates comparable to those on alcohol and tobacco: $46.7 billion. D. Baum, author of â€Å"Smoke and Mirrors: War on Drugs and The Politics of the Failure† claims that after â€Å"4 decades of punitive policies, illicit drugs are more easily obtained, drug potencies are greater, and drug barons are richer than ever. † (1997) This war costs more than any other agency, and sometimes costs more than some agencies combined. While local government agencies try to fight with this war as best as they can, they do not have the resources or manpower to keep up with the costs of stopping said crimes. It is unfortunate because the drug war affects local business to the point that inflation, high insurance premiums, and less travelers become a factor and negatively impact the area. While Federal Agencies are better suited to deal with the Drug War, Local Agencies have been more efficient in comb atting general crime. Local Governments tend to understand their demographics more thoroughly, so they can make better use of their funds. Most, if not all, funding for law enforcement comes from grants or tax revenues.Effective crime prevention in high-violence, high-risk neighborhoods begins with the interdependence of local agencies. These agencies need the ability to invest in the neighborhoods to prevent crime rates from rising. The most effective place to start is with children and their education; NCPC (National Crime Prevention Council) is an organization that’s mission it is to educate students and prevent crime. Illegal Immigration is the third problem facing our nation.Like the above-mentioned epidemics, Immigration has federal agencies to prevent this. While there is no concrete solution to this problem, steps are being taken to fix the issue. Whether it is the e-verify program, or a fence to keep illegal aliens out, agencies are constantly trying to come with new solutions. The issue is so complex and difficult, that even the President is threatening to use an executive order to reform the U. S Immigration system. Also because of the complexity of this issue, Federal Agencies such as I. C.E (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) CBP (Customs Border Patrol) Department of Labor or Homeland security offer the best solutions. Local Government usually don’t have the personnel to deal with immigration, as would a Federal Agency such as I. C. E, who have trained agents who specialize in that line of duty, and when faced with danger, know exactly how to carry out orders. All in all, Federal Agencies are usually more inclined to deal with our nation’s problems. It is important to never consolidate the agencies, so that each department can provide the best quality of service. There will always be negative issues that jeopardize our freedom, but how we deal with them is what makes this nation so great. Assignment: Change and Innovation Essay

In today’s society companies are finding that it is more demanding that they make changes in certain departments or in the entire company. May managers are faced with the question, â€Å"How do I make successful changes? † Another issue company’s face is the resistance to changes by employees. How can a company reduce the resistance from employees? What role do human resources play in managing change? Change is a part of moving forward in the company and keeping the company successful in years to follow. To make successful changes managers, employees, and human resources need to work together in making those changes. In companies there are factors that create a need for change. Some changes are motivated from external forces, such as competition or updating technology. Other changes are motivated by internal forces, such as employee attitudes, new equipment, and redesigning of jobs. When implementing changes the person who implements those changes are called a change agent. A change agent can be a manager or a non-manager. Mangers make smaller, less drastic changes and are more cautious about the outcome. Non-managers tend to make larger, more drastic changes because they do not have to deal with the repercussion of the change (Robbins, DeCenzo, & Coulter, 2011). Once the manager or non-manager implements the changes or changes that need to take place they have to make sure that the plan is followed by employees to have the biggest chance of success. When implementing the change from regular medical record to electronic medical record the first thing that needs to happen is, the change agent needs to accept the change and communicate the importance to the employees. The electronic medical records will be more successful if the change agent recognizes the impact on staff and adopts an open policy if one is not already in place. Committing to an open environment will establish trust and open-door policies. Open-door policies allow feedback and allow for employees and change agents to give and receive feedback with less defensive approaches. Employees need to feel comfortable when change is being implemented, providing training and allowing them to be a part of the change process are ways to help them feel comfortable. Allowing employees to help with the change making decisions will help them to accept the change. Employees that work with the customer may also have better insight on how to better provide for the customers. Providing the employees with training on why and how the change to electronic medical records will be implemented and making sure they know what is going on will help keep the employee more comfortable about the process. Letting employees know that some failure is okay will help ease them when failure comes. Changing agents need to look at failure as a positive learning experience and encouraging them to think the same way. Taking these steps and recognizing the employees efforts along the way can have a huge effect on if the employee feels positive about the change or not. If these practices are not implemented then employees may resist the change (Richards, 2012). Some common reasons why employees resist change are because they are afraid of the uncertainty, they may fear that the change will not work, change interrupts habit, and they may lose personal benefits or have personal losses due to the change. If an employee is not trained or allowed to give feedback they may resist changes due to uncertainty. Employees need to be trained on the reasons for the changing to the electronic system as well as how to use the system. Training employees may ease them out of their habit of the old way and into accepting the change and creating a new habit around this change. When a change in implemented in a company the employees resist the change due to the fear of the loss of status, money, or benefits they were getting from the old system. Employees should be told what changes will affect them personally and be allowed to give feedback on ways to minimize loses. All changes should be expressed in positive ways to help employees deal with their fears. Open-door policies and encouraging feedback will help with minimizing employees’ fears and resistance to change. Being proactive and allowing the employees give ideas for the change, along with supporting employees during and after the change will help resistance of employees be minimized (Robbins, DeCenzo, & Coulter, 2011). Human Resources (HR’s) also play a role in managing change. HR’s can act as the change agent and overlook the whole change process. HR’s can be in charge of setting a strategy, facilitating, training, and monitoring employee engagement, input and feedback. If a company does not feel that they want HR’s be in charge of the whole change then they may ask them to play no role at all or to evaluate the change effort once the change is complete. HR’s may have a small role or a big role in the change process at a company. Many companies are starting to give HR’s bigger roles and allowing them to be part of the change (APQC, 2012). Human Resources, manager, and even non-managers can implement change in a company. It is up to the person who is implementing the change to communicate, train, and support employees so that they feel comfortable with the change. Allowing HR’s and employees to be a part of the change can help everyone feel more at ease with the change. Failure should always be a learning experience and if a change agent gives employees a positive outlook and support while making the change then resistance will be minimized.

Scientists can use a number of methods to determin Essays

Scientists can use a number of methods to determin Essays Scientists can use a number of methods to determine the concentration of a solution. One way is to make visual comparisons with solutions of known concentrations i.e. ( "Standards") AimTo determine the concentration of coloured solutions. Procedure: Your group will set up a series of standard solutions. You will then be provided with solutions of unknown concentrations. You will attempt to determine how concentrated the unknown solutions are by comparing them to your standards. Apparatus Test tube rack 6 large test tubes ( 20 mL) Water distilled Food colouring Solutions of unknown concentration Burette 50 mL Retort stand and clamp Procedure: Read the method outlined below. Complete a risk assessment prior to performing the experiment Collect your apparatus. Set up the test tube rack with the 6 test tubes. Place a label a number from 1- 6 on the outside of each test tube. Fill each test tube with 15 mL of water delivered using a burette. Add 3 drops of food colouring to the second test tube and shake to ensure thorough mixing. To the remaining test tubes add 5, 7, 9 and 10 drops of food colouring respectively. Shake each test tube to ensure thorough mixing. Record observations about the test tubes. You may take a photo of the test tubes but you must also write a description of what you observe. Collect the test tubes containing solutions of unknown concentration. Compare them to your set of standards and record your results. Compare your results with another group who used the same food colouring. Risk Assessment: Hazard Risk Level of risk Precaution Control measures What to do Discussion Consider the method used in this experiment to determine the concentrations of the unknown solutions. State how reliable you think your method was and justify your decision. Make a list of possible errors that might have occurred in this experiment that could have affected your results. Suggest some advantages of the method used in this activity to determine the concentration of the solutions Suggest some disadvantages of the method used. i.e. Limitations of this method Suggest some improvements /alternative method that could be used in order to determine the concentrations of unknown solutions.

Fantasy or Reality the Illusion of the On-line Realm Essay

Fantasy or Reality the Illusion of the On-line Realm - Essay Example Whether it is the 75 year old grandmother, who plays online bridge, or the 7 year old child, that plays Scooby Doo, the internet is here and here to stay. I will be explaining why online should have more security and the risk of an online gaming obsession. In the article â€Å"Does Virtual Reality Need a Sheriff† by Alan Sipress.† He starts by explaining how a character in the game Second Life â€Å"allegedly raped another character†. Although this is a game meant for entertainment this incident could have possible long-term effects on the actual person in charge of controlling the character. Actions performed online such as â€Å"rape† can prove to be devastating, particularly to someone as emotionally vulnerable as a child. Unfortunately, there have been lots of sexual assault cases. One of the first known cases that had acutely been reported was back in 1993 by Julian Dibbell whom is a â€Å"prominent commentator on digital culture†(445). The natu re of Second Life as a highly complex virtual environment presents a great number of opportunities, yet it similarly poses a number of problems for Internet gamers. In addition to reported instances of sexual assault, there are also areas of the game where â€Å"avatars act out drug use, child abuse, rape and various forms of sadomasochism† (446). While individuals were outraged at such occurrences, other users indicated that simple role playing is not a serious violation, pointing out that no children were harmed during the game. While Internet gaming has generally not been considered a serious threat it is definitely a growing concern when one considers the ever increasing among of online gamers. For instance, the popular role playing game World of Warcraft has an estimated eight million participants. Within the structure of this game it’s been noted that there are regions of the game that have become highly problematic in that â€Å"Gang of animated characters have repeatedly preyed upon lone travelers, killing them and making off with their virtual belongings† (445). In these regards, gamers face the increasing threat of virtual assault. Japanese authorities even arrested an individual or such acts of virtual mugging. Indeed, the very nature of what constitutes a crime is a debated subject, with virtual depictions of child abuse not being illegal in the United States, yet being prohibited in Europe. With such a variety of legal understandings the problems for law enforcement in halting such violations is made increasingly difficult. Still, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has made strides in attempting to combat such abuses on Second Life. The F.B.I. has also launched investigations against gambling that has occurred within the online gaming environment. While the online gaming world largely remains a sort of contemporary Wild West, progress by such investigators as well as individuals desiring to institute a legal code on Sec ond Life, have started to make significant strides in combating such aspects of virtual crime. While crimes through online gaming poses significant risks to users, the nature of Internet gaming addictions poses just as large a challenge. Numerous reports have demonstrated that the effects of online gaming addiction have had similar deleterious effects on individuals as drug use. Indeed, psychological research has conducted tests wherein similar brain functions were shared by both drugs users and individuals addicted to online gaming (‘Virtual Addiction’). One such startling examined occurred in South Korea where online gaming has become so prominent that is has assumed the position similar to a national sport. Recently it was reported that in South
